TROY, Ala. – After finishing the regular season in 10th in the standings, the Troy men’s basketball team (11-20, 6-14) will meet seventh seeded Florida Atlantic (13-18, 9-11) in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojans will face the Owls at 8:30 p.m. on Friday night in Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark.
The winner will move on to face West division champions and second seeded Arkansas State on Saturday night in the quarterfinals.
Troy was defeated in both meetings with Florida Atlantic this season, falling at home, 61-54, and on the road, 80-59. The Trojans are 19-12 all-time against the Owls.
The Trojans are 4-7 all-time in the Sun Belt Tournament, but have not met the Owls in post-season play since defeating Florida Atlantic in the A-Sun Tournament in 2004. Last season, Troy fell to South Alabama in the first round, 87-81.
If they are to advance, the Trojans would face Arkansas State for just the second time in post-season play. Troy defeated the Red Wolves in the Sun Belt Tournament in 2006, 107-83.
Before the tournament gets underway on Friday, the Sun Belt will announce its All-Sun Belt teams on Wednesday.
