LSU defense eager to test itself against Auburn

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU defensive coordinator John "Chief"
Chavis has spent the past two decades stifling some of the best
offenses in the Southeastern Conference.

Chavis concedes his SEC-leading defense hasn't faced anyone
quite like quarterback Cam Newton this season. The veteran coach
also says his unit looks forward the chance to prove it can stop
him and No. 5 Auburn on Saturday.

Chavis says LSU will do its best to try to stop the 6-foot-6,
250-pound Newton from running and dare him to pass.

Newton averages 122.9 yards rushing, tops in the SEC, and
Auburn's offense is piling up a league-best 481 yards per game.

No. 6 LSU is allowing an SEC-low 242 yards per game in the SEC
and the second-fewest points in the conference at 14.4.
