A referee punched a player in the face and showed a total of four red cards during a Kuwait league match on Thursday (October 24).

The official, named by World Soccer magazine as Saad al Fadhi, was surrounded by angry Al Nasar players after awarding a penalty to visiting side Al Arabi. The referee then flattened an angry player with a left hook before kicking the same player as he rushed to confront the man with the whistle.

A red card swiftly followed with another Al Nasar player sent off a few seconds later for his part in the incident.

However, al Fadhi still wasn't finished with his red card, sending an Al Nasar player - who wasn't on the pitch - to the stands before presiding over the penalty kick, taken and scored by Al Arabi's Fahd Alrashedy, who sportingly then embraced the goalkeeper.

And the rash of dismissals claimed yet another Al Nasar player, who saw red after booting the ball straight at the referee from the kickoff.

The match ended in a 4-1 win for Al Arabi.
