Local youth softball players had the chance to attend a camp coached by softball superstar Jennie Finch. The camp was January 25 and 26th at Chipola College.
Finch pitched for the University of Arizona from 1998-2002. While at Arizona, Finch was a three-time All-American and two-time winner of the Honda Sports award given to the nation's top player.
Finch set an NCAA record setting 60 consecutive wins.
In 2001 the University of Arizona won the College World Series and Finch took home the Most Outstanding Player award.
The Chipola College softball team was on site to assist with the camp, as well as four former University of Tennessee players. Kat Dodson, Ivy Renfroe, Lauren Gibson, and Raven Chavanne all played together at UT from 2010-2013 and made three appearances in the College World Series.
Youth players participated in various softball drills and even had a personal pitching lesson from Finch.
Finch hopes that the girls learn as much as they can on the field, but don't forget to work hard in the classroom and off of the field as well.
"The best part about being who I am is being able to get out there on the softball field and not only teach the skills and fundamentals of the game but most importantly the life lessons and just hopefully encourage the future of our sport and young women to go after their dreams and just love it each and everyday and be the best them ." Finch said.
