Holmes County Wins Class 1A State Championship

Lakeland, FL -- The Holmes County Boys Basketball Team found itself in a tight battle at halftime of Wednesday's Class 1A State Championship Game. Chris Walker made sure the second half would be a different story.

Walker erupted after the break, leading the Blue Devils to a 59-40 win over West Gadsden in Lakeland, securing the first State Basketball Championship in school history.

The Florida signee was named Tournament MVP, scoring 30 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. He added seven blocks, finishing his high school career with a championship.

West Gadsden didn't make it easy. The Jaguars, who were also going after the first title in school history, kept things close, trailing only 25-24 at halftime.

But, the Blue Devils took control after the break, outscoring the Jaguars 13-3 in the third quarter to pull away. Holmes County shot 50 percent for the game and outrebounded West Gadsden 34-20.

Charis Fitzgerald led the Jaguars with 14 points.
