Gulf Coast Tops Sante Fe at FCSAA State Tournament

MARIANNA, FL -- The Gulf Coast Women's Basketball Team jumped out to an early lead against Sante Fe at the State Tournament on Wednesday. The Lady Commodores built a 10-point halftime lead, and held on after the break for a 73-62 victory.

With the win, Gulf Coast advances to the semifinals on Friday against St. Petersburg College. Sante Fe ends the year with a 16-14-1 record.

Necole Sterling led three Lady Commodores in double figures with 23 points. Tamara Taylor added 15 points and Kayla Montgomery chipped in 10 for Gulf Coast.

Monique Bunk led the Lady Saints with a game-high 32 points. Sante Fe fell despite a decisive advantage on the glass, outrebounding Gulf Coast 61-44.

Paulina Zaveckaite grabbed 18 rebounds, but hit just 2-of-16 shots from the field in the losing effort. Shanice Clark added 15 rebounds for the Lady Saints.
