Many Troy University football fans can't wait for this upcoming season to begin. The reasoning is simple: they are looking forward to putting the past two seasons in the rearview mirror. The Trojans, after winning five consecutive Sun Belt Conference championships, have posted losing records the past two years.
In 2011, the 3-9 record came as a shock to many. Last year, the Trojans were 5-7 in a season that found Troy with a chance to win almost every game, including a 55-48 barn-burner at Tennessee and a 30-24 loss to Mississippi State at home. So close, but not enough. The seasons mark the only back-to-back losing seasons in Larry Blakeney's Troy career.
Turning things around will be tough, but certainly not out of the question. The Trojans have just nine starters returning, but they have several players with good experience not counted in that number and another group of incoming players and transfers expected to provide help right away.
