Former QB competitors AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims show mutual respect on Twitter

In the offseason prior to the 2011 season, quarterbacks AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims found themselves locked in a heated competition for the starting quarterback job at Alabama, with the two players each earning the title of co-starter until two weeks into the 2011 season.

McCarron would go on to win the job and lead the Crimson Tide to back-to-back national championships while Sims transferred to Virginia before deciding to leave the Cavaliers after a difficult 2012 season.

When the news came on Monday that Sims would be transferring to Division II power Winston-Salem State University to finish his college career, his former competitor and teammate McCarron was among the first to congratulate Sims.
