From Troy Media Relations:
TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball team scored just five points in the final 7:20 as they fell to FIU at home on Thursday night, 63-50.
The Trojans (7-14, 2-8) came out on fire and built an early 12-2 lead in less than five minutes, but couldn't sustain the offense as they scored a season-low 50 points in a game that turned out to favor a slow pace.
Alan Jones led Troy with 13 points while R.J. Scott (12) and Justin Wright (10) were also in double-figures.
DeJuan Wright led FIU (6-15, 3-6) with 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Panthers were 18-of-24 at the free throw line.
Troy was just 4-of-12 (33.3 percent) from the line, posting their worst percentage of the season.
Both teams, who are accustom to fast-paced games, struggled from the beyond the arc. Troy shot just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) while FIU was just 3-of-16 (18.8 percent).
Troy returns to the floor on Saturday when Louisiana-Lafayette visits Sartain Hall. The Trojans and Ragin' Cajuns are set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
