Dothan, AL (WTVY) Kevin Morris got off to a slow start at this year's Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic, scoring just four points and grabbing two rebounds. Morris made up for that in Tuesday's second round match-up with Enterprise, turning in a dominating performance as the Tigers rolled past the Wildcats 57-38.
Morris had 21 points and nine rebounds,hitting all 10 of his field goal atempts. The South Alabama signee scored on a variety of post moves and offensive rebound putbacks to dominate down low.
Morris, a senior for the Tigers, has never lost a game at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic, with the Tigers winning the past four tournaments. With the win, Dothan advances to face Daleville in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Devin Taylor added 13 points for Dothan, Tyson Williams had eight and Kobe Baggett seven as the Tigers used a balanced attack to knock off the rival Wildcats.
Enterprise big man Ryan Littell scored 30 points in his first round game on Monday, but managed just 10 against Morris and the Tigers. Marcus Jones led Enterprise with 12 points.
Daleville - 43 Ashford - 38
Daleville and Ashford played down to the wire during Tuesday's second round match-up at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. Tied after three quarters, the Warhawks did just enough to pull out the win, edging the Yellow Jackets 43-38.
With the win, the Warhawks advanced to face Dothan in the semifinals on Wednesday. This was also a big financial win for Daleville, as it guaranteed the Warhawks two more games at the tournament. All proceeds from the tournament go back to participating schools, based on how many games the school plays.
Jaylyn Hinton and Jonathan Myhand led the way for Daleville scoring 15 points to combine for 30 of the team's 43 points.
Juwan Richardson led Ashford with 16 points.
Headland - 62 Dale County - 54
In a match-up of fierce rivals, Headland and Dale County played an entertaining back-and-forth game during Tuesday's second round at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. Leading by two entering the final period, the Rams pulled away down the stretch for the 62-54 victory.
With the win, Headland advanced to face Northview in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Antonio Johnson followed up his 27 point outburst in the first round of the tournament with another big game, scoring a game-high 21 points along with eight rebounds. Calen Murry added 17 points and seven boards, while Tyler Larsen had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Joshua Wesson added 10 points for the Rams.
Shun Crossley had a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds for Dale County, including several thunderous slam dunks. Chase German had 12 points and Eric Crawford added 10 for the Warriors in the losing effort.
Northview - 94 Eufaula - 74
Northview continued personally dispatching teams from Barbour County at the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic, beating Eufaula 94-74 in Tuesday's second round. The Cougars knocked out Barbour Countyt 70-50 in the first round on Saturday.
With the win, the Cougars advanced to face Headland in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Both teams set a fast pace, pressing each other defensively, attacking the basket and taking shots early in possessions. After a close first half, the Cougars used that style to take command after halftime.
Leading by 10 at the break, the Cougars erupted for 26 points in the third quarter to take control.
Rod Melton led four Cougars in double figures with 23 points. Kendrith Mitchell added 19, along with 14 points from Jovante Lee and 11 poitns from Charles Asouzo.
Justin Warren and Juarez George scored 16 points each for the Tigers. Coveted recruit Tony Johnson had 15 points before fouling out.
