Ashley Asouza and Rachel Brownlee put on a show at the South Regional Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Although Asouza outscored Brownlee, it was Brownlee's Clarke County squad winning a tight 52-50 game over Asouza and Brewbaker Tech.
With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to Saturday's 4A Regional Final against the winner of UMS-Wright and St. James. Brewbaker Tech ends the year with a 22-2 record.
Asouza scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, keeping the Rams in the game. However, her biggest shot of the day went off the mark, as her jumper from the free throw line in the final 20 seconds rimmed out.
Brownlee had 24 points and 10 boards for the Bulldogs. Her lay-up in the final minute gave Clarke County a three-point lead. Shelby Williams lay-in just moments later at the other end cut the Dogs lead back to one at 51-50.
And, Brewbaker Tech had a shot to win it at the end, getting the ball back with 19 seconds to go. After a timeout, the Rams worked the ball to Asouza in the lane, but shot was off the mark.
A desperation heave from beyond halfcourt came up empty, sending the Rams home for the year.
