Chipola College headed to the NJCAA National basketball tournament

HUTCHINSON, KS—The Chipola College Indians will play in the NJCAA National basketball tournament, March 17-22, in Hutchinson, KS.

The Indians play Wednesday, March 19, at 6 p.m. (CST). They will face the winner of Shelton State (AL) and State Fair College (Missouri). The Indians (25-5) enter the tournament as the number three seed behind number one seed Indians Hills (31-2) and number two seed Vincennes (31-2)

Chipola defeated St. Petersburg 79-73 to capture the Region 8/FCSAA State Championship, March 8, on the campus of the College of Central Florida in Ocala.

Tournament MVP Sam Cassell, Jr., led Chipola with 22 points. He also was named State Player of the Year.

The Indians shot 30 of 34 from the free throw line. Chipola has won the men’s 13 titles, more than any other college.

Chipola defeated Polk 76-66 in the semi-finals on March 7. The Indians beat defending State Champion Central Florida 82-73 a first round game March 5. Chipola (25-5) tops the men’s state poll.

Chipola’s national tournament games will be broadcast on WJAQ-radio, 100.9, on the web at and also live on Chipola College Television (CCTV), Comcast Channel 4.
