MARIANNA, FL -- The Chipola College Women's Basketball Team picked the perfect time to avengean early-season loss to Florida State College of Jacksonville.
The Lady Indians defense played one of it's best games of the year, sparking a 62-55 win over the Blue Wave at the FCSAA State Tournament. With the win, Chipola advanced to face the winner of Palm Beach and Northwest Florida in the semifinals on Friday.
Playing in front of their home crowd, the Lady Indians turned in an inspired defensive effort, forcing 26 turnovers and holding the Blue Wave to 32 percent shooting on the night.
Chipola took advantage, leading by two points and halftime, and holding on after the break for a quarterfinal win. The Blue Wave beat the Lady Indians by 10 points earlier this year.
Kristine Brance led Chipola with 19 points, while Jasmine Crawford added 11 points. The Lady Indians improved to 24-5 on the season, including an 11-0 mark at home.
Alexia Bell scored a game-high 21 points for the Blue Wave in the losing effort.
