The Brantley Boys Basketball Team hasn't been to the Final Four since 1995, when the team won it's last of three consecutive state championships. That 18-year drought is about to come to an end.
Wesley Person scored 25 points, including 19 in the second half, leading Brantley to a dominating 63-30 win over J.F. Shields at the 1A South Regional Final. With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to the Final Four next Tuesday at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Panthers early, behind the 3-point shooting of Person and O.J. Guice. Person hit one trey and Guice added two more, including a 35-footer to beat the first quarter buzzer, sparking Brantley to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter.
J.F. Shields finally woke up after halftime, using a flurry of quick baskets to cut Brantley's lead to 10 points. The Panthers would get no closer, as the Bulldogs reeled off a 21-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Guice scored 14 points, including three 3-pointters. The Bulldogs also dominated the glass, outrebounding J.F. Shields 41-19.
RaeDamon McCreary led the Panthers with 10 points. J.F. Shields ends the year with a 14-13 record.
