NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has
become the 28th member of baseball's 3,000-hit club, doing it with
a 5-for-5 performance in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay
Rays.

Jeter began the game two hits shy before hitting a leadoff
single in the first and a solo homer in the third. He joined Wade
Boggs as the only players to reach the 3,000 plateau with a home
run.

Jeter capped his memorable afternoon by delivering the
tiebreaking single in the eighth as the Yanks ended a two-game
skid.

Also in the American League, Boston still leads the East by a
game over the Yankees after John Lackey scattered three hits over 6
2/3 innings of the Red Sox's 4-0 shutout of Baltimore. Kevin
Youkilis and Josh Reddick drove in two runs apiece in the Bosox's fifth straight win.

Jose Bautista led off the 10th inning with his second homer of
the night to push Toronto past Cleveland 5-4. Bautista leads the
majors with 31 homers and is the first Blue Jay to hit at least 30
before the All-Star break.

Cleveland's lead in the Central remains a half-game over Detroit
after Alex Gordon belted a three-run homer in Kansas City's 13-6
rout of the Tigers. Alcides Escobar drove in three runs and scored three times for the Royals, who led 9-2 after three innings.

Texas beat Oakland 7-6 on Josh Hamilton's two-run homer with two
out in the bottom of the ninth. Hamilton was 4-for-5 with a double
and three RBIs as the West-leading Rangers won their sixth in a row
to stay a game ahead of Los Angeles.

The Angels rode Torii Hunter's two homers and five RBIs to a 9-3
pounding of Seattle. Mark Trumbo also homered in the Angels' 13th
victory in 16 games.

Alexei Ramirez singled home the winning run in the bottom of the
ninth to lift the Chicago White Sox past Minnesota 4-3. Ramirez was
3-for-4 with two RBIs as the White Sox beat the Twins for the first
time in 10 tries.

Over to the National League, where the Dodgers were no-hit for 8
2/3 innings before pulling out a 1-0 win over San Diego. Juan Uribe
ended the no-hit bid with a two-out double and scored the game's
lone run on Dioner Navarro's single one batter later.

Aaron Harang worked the first six innings before four relievers
combined to extend the no-hitter into the ninth.

The Padres managed just one hit off Rubby De La Rosa and three
relievers.

Atlanta pulled out a 4-1, 11-inning win at Philadelphia as Alex
Gonzalez singled home the tiebreaking run before Brian McCann
smacked a two-run homer. Tommy Hanson gave up a run and four hits in seven innings to help the Braves win for the 10th time in 12
games and pull within 2 1/2 games of the East-leading Phillies.

Albert Pujols socked his first homer since coming off the disabled list, a game-tying, two-run shot in the eighth inning of the St. Louis Cardinals' 7-6 victory over Arizona. Rookie pinch-hitter Tony Cruz ended it with an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.

Jay Bruce hit a solo homer to spark a five-run 10th that led
Cincinnati past Milwaukee 8-4, leaving the Brewers and Cardinals
tied for the NL Central lead. Ramon Hernandez also homered for the
Reds, who held a team meeting before winning for the third time in
nine games.

San Francisco beat the Mets 3-1 as Pablo Sandoval doubled during
a two-run first to run his hitting streak to 20 games. Tim Lincecum
around a run and four hits in six innings to help the West-leading Giants move two games ahead of the second-place Diamondbacks.

Ubaldo Jimenez retired his first 13 batters and allowed five hits in eight innings of Colorado's 2-1 triumph at Washington. Todd Helton homered, doubled and drove in two runs.

Starlin Castro had three hits and an RBI to support an irritated
Ryan Dempster in the Chicago Cubs' 6-3 win at Pittsburgh. Dempster
gave up three runs and had a dugout tantrum after being lifted
after five innings, throwing equipment and arguing with manager
Mike Quade.

Ricky Nolasco fired a seven-hitter and Logan Morrison laced a
bases-loaded triple as Florida downed Houston 6-1. John Buck added a solo homer to help the Marlins win their fourth in a row.

Other Baseball News...

Rodriguez out...Castro busts hand...Braun iffy for All-Star game

UNDATED (AP) -- Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a slight tear in his right knee and could miss as much as a month of playing time. New York manager Joe Girardi revealed the injury and says the 14-time All Star will decide the best course of action.

Rodriguez has two options, play with the injury or undergo surgery. Girardi says he expects a decision will be announced on Sunday. Rodriguez, who turns 36 later this month, has already pulled out of next week's All-Star game.

Also in the majors, White Sox catcher Ramon Castro broke his
right hand while trying to catch a pitch in the eighth inning
Saturday. Castro was charged with a passed ball on the play on the
pitch from Mark Buehrle.

Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun will miss Tuesday's
All-Star game due to a strained left calf that has kept him out of
the starting lineup for seven straight games. Braun will be replaced by Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen.

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is apologizing for charging and swinging at Orioles pitcher Kevin Gregg Friday night.
Ortiz said such actions are not part of his personality and he
doesn't like to be in a situation like that.

Funeral services will be held Monday for Shannon Stone, the
Texas Rangers fan who fell to his death earlier in the week. The
firefighter died less than an hour after he tumbled headfirst over
a rail in the left-field stands during a game Thursday night.
