AUBURN, Ala. -- For the second straight season, Auburn will honor the men and women who serve and have served this great nation in military service as part of Military Appreciation Day. Auburn University has scheduled numerous military-themed events for the day when Auburn hosts Ole Miss at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
There is military-themed entertainment slated for during and before the game with the Black Diamond jet team conducting a pregame flyover featuring Aero L-39 Albatross jets. (Disclaimer: event could be suspended at any time due to weather restrictions or scheduling priorities). The Auburn University Marching Band also will present a special halftime military tribute that includes Armed Forces Salute, American Band and Battle Hymn. The halftime show will incorporate veterans representing each branch of the armed forces.
The servicemen and women in attendance will be involved in many of Auburn's traditions and activities during the day. The Auburn ROTC will lead the Auburn football team through Tiger Walk at approximately 3:40 p.m. The team captains will be joined during the coin toss by four Wounded Warriors, and multiple in-game recognitions honoring Auburn University veterans will occur throughout the night.
To show their support, the Auburn Football coaching staff will adorn a Military Appreciation patch on the sleeve of their gameday shirts, and the team will wear the specially made Auburn military appreciation shirt during Tiger Walk. Auburn and UnderArmour have partnered to give the Boot Campaign 15 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the military appreciation t-shirt, available at the Auburn Team Shop and other local retailers.
When walking around campus on Saturday, fans will see many displays of military vehicles and shelters. Auburn has partnered with the Dixie Division Military Vehicle Club to bring in historic military display vehicles which will be presented at multiple locations on campus including the Nichols Center, Dawson Building Lawn, and the east side of Jordan-Hare Stadium. Military Branch and POW flags will fly in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Coke has produced 10,000 Auburn Military Appreciation buttons which will be distributed at the Coca-Cola FanFest on Nichols Lawn prior to the game.
