Auburn Baseball Team Powers Past Maine 12-3

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn baseball team took advantage of four Maine errors and a five-run fifth inning to pick up a 12-3 win in game one of the Saturday doubleheader.

Maine (0-2) opened up the game on a two-out solo shot to right from Michael Fransoso, but Auburn (2-0) manufactured three runs in the bottom of the first on two Maine errors and back-to-back singles from Jackson Burgreen and Dan Glevenyak.

With bases loaded, a fielder's choice from Garrett Cooper scored Burgreen, followed by a walk from Damek Tomscha to score Glevenyak. Sam Gillikin grounded into a double play, but was able to score Ryan Tella, who reached based on an error.

Auburn added another run in the second, as well as the fourth, before opening the lead wider in the bottom of the fifth.

Singles from Tella and Blake Austin and a double from Glevenyak gave Auburn a seven-run lead before Cooper belted one over the right field wall to make it a 10-1 game midway through.

Maine put up two more runs in the top of the seventh, but that would be the only offense it could muster the rest of the way. Auburn tacked on two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to collect the 12-3 victory.

Burgreen finished the day 2-for-6 with two hits and three runs scored, while Glevenyak went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and one RBI.

Justin Camp (1-0) entered in relief of starting pitcher Rocky McCord to get the win in his first career appearance after missing last season with an injury. Camp threw four innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with two strikeouts.

McCord went four innings with one earned run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Starting pitcher Scott Heath (0-1) took the loss for Maine in two innings of work. Heath allowed four runs, two of them earned, on five hits with three walks.
