AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs watched the football team enjoy what he calls a "magical season" in coach Gus Malzahn's debut and emerge as a likely preseason top-10 pick this fall.
Jacobs still has higher ambitions in football and other sports. He said Thursday in a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press that "you can never let your foot off the pedal" and "there's no place for contentment here."
Jacobs and Auburn have committed more than $40 million to Malzahn and new basketball coach Bruce Pearl over the next six years. The Tigers won a Southeastern Conference championship in football and played for the national title.
Auburn also has a committee exploring recognizing the 1913, 1983 and 1993 football teams as national champions.
