LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Bobby Petrino had every opportunity to
try tempering Arkansas' preseason hopes before a golf tournament on Monday.
The Razorbacks coach wanted no part of it, instead striking an
almost defiant tone while feeding rising expectations with fall
practices set to begin in less than three weeks.
Arkansas had 14 players selected to the coaches' All-Southeastern Conference preseason teams last week, the most of any conference team. That news followed what has been a steady stream of players picked for a host of preseason award watch lists, all following the school's first BCS appearance against Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl last season.
The furor about the upcoming season has risen to a fever pitch
within the state's borders despite the departure of three graduated
offensive linemen, including both starting tackles. Also, Petrino
dismissed tackle Anthony Oden from the team last week after his
second arrest in a year.
