Alabama State seeking quarterback, championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama State's past three seasons have been notable both for success and frustrations.
The Hornets have tied for the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division title the past three seasons, only to lose the tiebreaker twice and fall in the 2010 championship game.
Alabama State is favored to win the East this season. Coach Reggie Barlow says the Hornets are "just hoping this year will be the year that we do get to the championship game and make it happen."
Former Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell leads the way in his second season. Southern Miss transfer Arsenio Favor and Daniel Duhart are battling to replace Greg Jenkins as the starting quarterback.
Jenkins has signed a three-year deal with the NFL's Oakland Raiders as a receiver.
