(Dothan)-- Coming off a (4-6) season the Alabama Rottweilers are looking to improve on not only their record but their organization as a whole.
It's just the 2nd season for the Rottweilers who will be coached by Bernard Hunt.
"We've got a very good squad this year," said Hunt.
"We'll be playing some of the best teams in the country. Our leagues is the number two league out of almost 150 leagues. So we'll have a lot of competition and I expect us to do really well," he said.
A handful of players signed on the dotted line at Ms. Boomer's in Dothan Saturday to make it official.
The team is comprised of players 18 years and older, from across the Wiregrass, looking to either play in college, at the professional level or just continue their passion of playing football.
The Rottweilers signing day was part of a National Signing day for the developmental league.
"League-wide, every team in the league did their national signing day so we had our players sign their player commitment contracts and after today all of the players will be committed to the Alabama Rottweilers."
It was a rough first season for the Rottweilers. Off the field the Rottweilers struggled on a weekly basis to gain the cooperation of local officials to find fields to play on as well as find help with sponsorship to raise money for costs to play.
"It was tough having a young team in our first year. It was hard getting the city behind us. Every obstacle we faced we had to find a different way to overcome it, finding a field was tough," said Hunt.
"This year people know more about us, having the schools know more about us, the community know about us and restaraunts...we hope to achieve more because we have more of a following now," he said.
The Rottweilers will play a 12 week season that includes three pre-season games. The team won its first preseason game 34-6.
Their next preseason game is January 25th in Pensacola followed by their final preseason game on February 8th in Dothan.
