Alabama Riding Stingy Defense into SEC Contention

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama coach Anthony Grant doesn't mind when people say his team's winning ugly.

The Crimson Tide hasn't scored more than 60 points in its past eight games, but opponents aren't getting there either. Alabama has won eight of 10 games and is tied for second in the Southeastern Conference with No. 25 Kentucky at 8-3 in the league going into Saturday's game with South Carolina.

Grant will take scores like a 52-45 win over Georgia and 50-49 over Texas A&M.

He says, an "ugly win beats a pretty loss any day of the week."

The Tide is 12th nationally in scoring defense but 11th in the SEC in points per game.

Grant says his mind-set is Alabama will "have a chance to win every game" if it plays well defensively.
