Alabama Hammers meeting their expectations by reaching PIFL championship game

Between devouring the Albany Panthers and then devouring a half-ton spread of wings and fries at a joyous postgame celebration, the Alabama Hammers were doing their fan-friendly duties on the emerald rug inside the Propst Arena.

Linebacker Jake Trantin, freshly named to the All-PIFL team, was signing autographs in the aftermath of the Hammers' 61-46 victory over the Panthers that launched Alabama into the Professional Indoor Football League championship game.

"That's every team's goal," Trantin said of the title opportunity. "And you have to believe it. With the players and coaches we have, this is what we expected of ourselves."

Immediate history would not have offered that expectation. The Hammers were 7-17 in the previous two seasons.
