A person familiar with the situation says Jacksonville State coach Bill Clark is taking over the program at UAB.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Tuesday on condition of anonymity because UAB hasn't announced the hiring.
Jacksonville State announced Tuesday Clark is leaving the program for an unspecified job. UAB said in a news release that the Blazers will announce their new coach Wednesday afternoon.
Jacksonville State athletic director Warren Koegel said in a statement that Clark told him Tuesday he had taken another job.
Clark led the Gamecocks to the quarterfinals of the Football Championship Subdivision during his lone season at the school.
He replaces Garrick McGee, who left to become Bobby Petrino's offensive coordinator at Louisville after going 5-19 in two seasons.
Clark had a short stint as the Defensive Coordinator at Dothan High School in 2000.
