Team USA scored a major win in Ice Sled Hockey, but a crucial Wheelchair Curling game was lost at the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi on Thursday.

In the semifinals for Ice Sled Hockey, the United States defeated Canada 3-0. This assures the United States at least a silver medal as they go on to face Russia in the Gold Medal Match on Saturday. Russia defeated Norway in a 4-0 shutout on Thursday to advance to that final. Canada will face Norway for the Bronze.

After two big wins in Wheelchair Curling, Team USA lost to Great Britain by a score of 8-7 on Thursday. This eliminates the Americans from playoff contention, and leaves them with a 5th place finish tied with the team for Slovakia. Slovakia ended their Wheelchair Curling tournament on the end of a 16-0 thumping from the team from Canada.

As far as the medal count stood after the end of Thursday’s Paralympic action, Russia remained dominant with 50 medals overall. Ukraine was in second with fourteen, followed by Canada. Team USA has eight medals, leaving them in fourth place as they go into Friday’s competition.
