October Bass Tournament Moved from Alabama to Georgia Because of Oil

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A regional bass fishing championship planned
for the Mobile-Tensaw Delta is relocating to Bainbridge, Ga.

Bud Ratliff, director of the Mobile Bay Sports Authority, says
between 300 and 400 fishermen were projected to participate in the
Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Regional Championship,
creating an economic impact of about $1.5 million during the Oct.
15-16 weekend.

Morris Sheehan, president of the association, said his office has fielded dozens of calls from anglers saying they wouldn't participate if the tournament were held in Mobile because of the oil spill and media coverage of oiled birds and dead fish.

Sheehan said his group planned to bring the tournament to Mobile
in 2011.

The Bassmaster Weekend Series is an amateur fishing series in
which anglers battle for bragging rights, modest prize money and a
spot in the Bassmaster Classic.
