Auburn sticks by Cox at QB

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville didn't even wait for the question to be asked before providing the emphatic answer.

Who's the starting quarterback? Brandon Cox, the same guy it has been for the last two seasons. But, Tuberville hopes, not necessarily the same guy who has thrown four interceptions in the Tigers' first two games and been abused by not only defenders but media and fans.

Tuberville spoke yesterday at his weekly news conference. He said he knows Cox has taken a lot of heat lately but that the Tigers are standing by their quarterback.

They may, however, take other steps to spark their offense in the lead up to Saturday's game against Mississippi State.

The changes might even include implementing a package to utilize athletic freshman quarterback Kodi Burns, giving opposing defenses a different look like Florida did last season with Tim Tebow and Chris Leak.

The speedy, strong-armed Burns definitely would be a changeup from Cox, a pocket passer with little mobility.

Cox's teammates spoke out strongly on behalf of their senior quarterback, but they're also intrigued by what Burns might be able
to do.
