Sindelar tied for Champions Tour lead in Hoover

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Joey Sindelar shot a 7-under 65 in the
Regions Charity Classic on Friday and was tied for first after the
record-setting opening round.

Bobby Clampett, Russ Cochran and Peter Senior joined Sindelar
atop a crowded leaderboard. A total of 34 players were within three
shots of the lead and 60 players broke par at the Ross Bridge

The 77-player field combined for an average score of 69.519,
breaking the tournament record of 70.397 set in 2002.

R.W. Eaks, David Frost and David Peoples were at 6 under. Ben
Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Larry Nelson and Corey Pavin were among 11
players with 67s.

Ken Green, playing in his first stroke-play event since having
the lower part of his right leg amputated following a car accident
last June, shot a 74.
