Injured Stewart Expected to be Ready for Season Opener

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - It's been a long preseason for fullback Carl Stewart, who has been limited since injuring his hamstring on the second day of preseason practice.

He has been practicing the past two days and said he will definitely be ready for the season-opener next Saturday against Kansas State.

Stewart is mostly used as a blocking back and receiver out of the backfield, and can line up at several spots. He caught two touchdown passes in the Cotton Bowl win over Nebraska.

Coach Tommy Tuberville called Stewart "the universal player" and said it's important to get him back on the field "for his experience and leadership."
