Jones plays despite hip pains.

Atlanta's Chipper Jones walks back to the dugout frustrated.

NEW YORK (AP) - Chipper Jones is back in the Atlanta Braves'
lineup despite a sore right hip.

Jones tested his hip before Sunday night's game against the New
York Mets, taking some swings in the indoor cage, and said he felt
good enough to play. He injured his hip on his first swing Saturday
- his 38th birthday - and left the game after 2½ innings following
a pair of strikeouts.

The third baseman thought he would be sidelined for several
games, but was back in the lineup batting third Sunday night as
Atlanta tried to stop a four-game slide.

Jones, a switch-hitter, said his hip hurts much more on
right-handed swings than cuts from the left side. Fortunately for
him, the Mets were scheduled to start right-hander Mike Pelfrey on
Sunday night.
