With 2nd pick in 2nd round, Chiefs take CB Arenas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - With their second pick in the second
round of the NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have taken
cornerback Javier Arenas of Alabama.

Using the selection they obtained from Atlanta in the trade of
tight end Tony Gonzalez, the Chiefs added depth to one of the few
position groups that most observers feel is a strength.

But Arenas and their other pick in the second round, Ole Miss
wide receiver Dexter McCluster, might also be used as kick
returners - a great need for the Chiefs.

The 5-foot-8, 197-pound Arenas had 125 punt returns for 1,752
yards in his Alabama career, the second-best in major college
history. His seven touchdown punt returns set the Southeastern
Conference record.

While going 4-12 last season, KC ranked 27th in punt returns
with an average of less than 7 yards per attempt and 25th in
kickoff returns, averaging 21.6 yards.
