AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn linebacker Steve Gandy is giving up football after sustaining his fourth concussion in eight months in an injury-filled career.
The junior has also had knee injuries and shoulder problems in addition to a scary thigh infection last year that led to surgery and required 100 stitches.
Head coach Tommy Tuberville said Gandy will work with linebackers coach James Willis during practice this season and possibly laying the foundation for a coaching career after graduation in December.
Gandy was a second-team linebacker.
