Compact Chapman battling to replace Cody

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama nose guard Josh Chapman doesn't
feel like there will be much drop-off on Alabama's defensive line,
even with three new starters.

Chapman has the biggest shoes to fill - literally and
figuratively. He's expected to replace two-time All-American
Terrence Cody.

Chapman is several inches and 50 pounds smaller than Cody. But
he's also one of the Crimson Tide's strongest players with a bench
press he says is in the "high 500s."

The 6-foot-1, 310-pound Chapman frequently spelled Cody in
third-down situations. He has played in 29 career games, which
makes him something of a mentor to several promising young
defensive linemen.
