AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - The Auburn Tigers welcomed 19 freshman signees to campus today, along with the returning veterans.
The freshmen reporting included Ryan Williams, who arrived on campus earlier in the day. The former B.C. Rain High School defensive back was cleared after an investigation by the Mobile County school system into reported grade changes on his transcript.
Seven invited walk-ons also reported.
Nine members of the Tigers' 30-player recruiting class failed to qualify academically and two others are still awaiting word on their status. The casualties include highly recruited tailback Enrique Davis from Florida and Benjamin Russell linebacker Eltoro Freeman.
Offensive lineman Nick Fairley of Williamson High School and wide receiver Chris Slaughter of Hargrave Military Academy still haven't been cleared for eligibility.
The Tigers' signees and other young players will work with the coaches in their first practice Thursday morning. The full squad practices in the afternoon.
