Tuberville: Freeman not Eligible This Season, Waiting on Others

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville said that linebacker Eltoro Freeman of Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City will NOT be part of Auburn's football team this season.

Tuberville told The Huntsville Times that Freeman did not meet NCAA eligibility requirements. Freeman was part of the strong recruiting class Auburn signed in February. He now plans to go to junior college.

Auburn coaches were still waiting today to hear about the status of defensive back Ryan Williams of B.C. Rain High School in Mobile, lineman Nick Fairley of Williamson High School in Mobile and wide receiver Chris Slaughter, who played last season at Hargrave Military Academy.

Williams has gotten the OK from the NCAA and from Auburn officials. A decision from the Southeastern Conference is expected tomorrow. If he is cleared, he will join the team at practice Thursday.

Fairley and Slaugher are still waiting to hear from the NCAA. Clearance for them is NOT expected to come in time for
practice Thursday.

Tuberville told the Times that running back Enrique Davis of Lynn Haven, Florida, did NOT qualify, which was expected. He will go to Hargrave and will likely join the Tigers in January.
