BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A new coach of the year award in
Birmingham will have two high-profile local connections.

Alabama coach Nick Saban will receive the inaugural Bobby Bowden
National Collegiate Coach of the Year Award in Bowden's hometown on
March 21.

The award is sponsored by the Birmingham's Over the Mountain
Touchdown Club and the Alabama Sports Foundation.

It will be given annually to honor excellence in college
football coaching.

Saban led the Crimson Tide to the national championship last
season. Bowden, the recently retired Florida State coaching legend,
was born in Birmingham and played quarterback at Woodlawn High.

He initially enrolled at Alabama but transferred to Birmingham's
Howard College, now Samford University.
