Fisher goes for defensive help in first class

AP-FL--Signing Day-Florida St,0123
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Jimbo Fisher may be offensive-minded,
but he zeroed in on defensive players in his initial signing class
of prep talent as Florida State's head coach.

The Seminoles went big for defensive backs, linebackers and
defensive linemen Wednesday in hopes of shoring up a beleaguered
defense that gave up four touchdowns or more in seven games last
year and allowed 37 points or more on four occasions.

Thirteen of the first 22 signings were defensive players,
including the son of former Seminole star Willie Jones - Christian
Jones, a 225-pound linebacker from Winter Park. Jones and
diminutive cornerback Lamarcus Joyner from St. Thomas Aquinas in
Fort Lauderdale were among the most highly rated prep players to
choose the Seminoles.
