NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Meredith Marsh, benched for the first
time in two years, hit 12-of-12 free throws to help lead Vanderbilt
to a 70-61 victory over Alabama on Thursday night.
Marsh was pulled from the starting lineup for an undisclosed
rules violation, but finished with 14 points for the Commodores
(15-6, 4-4 Southeastern Conference).
Tierney Jenkins led the Crimson Tide (9-12, 1-7) with 21 points
and 10 rebounds. Her 3-point play with 23.1 seconds left pulled
Alabama within five before Marsh sank her final two free throws.
Ericka Russell scored 15, including a 3-pointer that closed
Vanderbilt's lead to 62-56, as the Crimson Tide staged a rally
after trailing by 18.
Marsh, who came off the bench 6:39 before halftime, hit only one
field goal. Jence Rhoads also scored 14 points for Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt's Hannah Tuomi added 11 points and eight rebounds,
and Jessica Mooney scored 10.
