Ellis Hired as Coastal Carolina Coach

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Former Auburn and Clemson basketball coach Cliff Ellis has been named coach at Coastal Carolina.

Ellis was among five finalists for the job vacated last month by Buzz Peterson, who left the Chanticleers after two seasons to become director of player personnel for the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Myrtle Beach Sun News reports Ellis was moving into his newoffice this morning. He told the newspaper he hopes to get Coastal
back in to the NCAA tournament.

Ellis has 534 wins in 30 years of coaching college basketball. His last job at Auburn ended in 2004. He had a record of 186 wins and 125 losses for the Tigers.

Ellis spent ten years at Clemson, with a record of 177 wins and 128 losses. He had eight N-C-A-A tournament appearances.
