UAB rides newcomers to record-tying start

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The UAB Blazers are off to one of their
best starts despite a mostly new roster.

The Blazers are 16-2, matching their two fastest starts from the
Gene Bartow era, despite being being picked to finish 10th in
Conference USA. They have rallied from double-digit deficits to win
their last two games.

The only returning starter was point guard Aaron Johnson on a
roster that includes eight newcomers. That new group is led by
guard Elijah Millsap, Conference USA's top rebounder and No. 3

The Blazers had to replace leading scorers Paul Delaney and
Robert Vaden and had only three returning lettermen from a team
that won 22 games but fell short of the NCAA tournament.

They've done it with the league's top scoring defense.
