We found an interesting story in the pool over at Westgate Park in Dothan. Slovakian foreign exchange student Henrich Krc has been smashing records for the Dothan Dolphins Swim Team.
Looking across the pool at Westgate, this looks like a normal practice for the Dothan Dolphins Swim Team. But, in lane 4, Henrich or “Henry” Krc is taking his warm-up laps.
Just a normal 18-year-old. The difference is he's from Slovakia and he's spending a year in the states. And, oh yeah, he's a really fast swimmer.
“It's a good experience for me,” Krc said.
And, it's been a good experience for the Dolphins as well. Many of the team records date back more than 20 years. But, Henry has already shattered three of those records in the 50-yard breast stroke, the 100-yard breast stoke and the 200-yard breast stroke. Swimming is just swimming on any continent.
Krc said, “It's the same as home, no different.
Just this past weekend, Henry won one event and finished in the top four in four other events in a tournament in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
“Every competition is very good,” Krc said. “I've done pretty well.”
Henry says swimming is the third most popular sport in Slovakia, trailing just soccer and ice hockey.
Krc said, “This swim team is a little smaller than my team. But, they have a lot of talented kids.”
Henry will return home after school concludes in May. But, he's building plenty of memories to take with him back to Slovakia.
“Dothan is a beautiful town,” Krc said. “It's freedom.”
