ATLANTA (AP) - Josh Beckett has become baseball's second ten-game winner of the season by throwing six scoreless innings in Boston's 4-to-0 shutout of Atlanta.
Beckett allowed four hits and left the game following a 48-minute rain delay. He also delivered an RBI double in the fifth and came around to score to put the Red Sox ahead 3-to-0.
David Ortiz snapped a scoreless tie with a fourth-inning homer off loser Tim Hudson. Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI single and Alex Cora lifted a sacrifice fly as the Red Sox prevented the Braves from pulling within a half-game of the NL East lead.
Beckett improved to 10-and-1 while Hudson slipped to 6-and-5. Hudson was reached for all four runs and nine hits in five and a-third.
