OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Luke Adkins and Brian Dozier hit home runs and Southern Mississippi took advantage of five errors to beat Troy 14-to-1 Friday in the opening game of the NCAA Oxford regional.
Adkins had a two-run homer in the first inning as the second-seeded Golden Eagles (39-21) raced to a 9-to-nothing lead after two innings.
Dozier added a solo homer in the fourth inning and Southern Miss had 16 hits against Troy (34-26).
Southern Miss' win broke a three-game losing streak to Troy, which knocked the Golden Eagles out of the postseason last year with two wins in the Tuscaloosa regional.
Ryan Belanger (8-4) picked up the win, scattering eight hits and striking out four in seven innings.
Clegg Snipes (6-6) earned the loss. He was the first of five Troy pitchers and a victim of five unearned runs. He gave up six hits, four earned runs and struck out one in two innings.
