TROY, Ala. (AP) - The Troy Trojans received an at-large bid to an NCAA regional at Mississippi Monday.
They were the only state team to make the field as Alabama was left out.
The Trojans (34-25) open Friday against Southern Mississippi (38-21) in the Oxford regional. Top-seeded Ole Miss faces Sam Houston State in the other game.
The Crimson Tide (31-26), meanwhile, was not among the five Southeastern Conference teams receiving regional bids when the field was announced Monday.
Alabama's tenuous chances were damaged by going 0-and-2 in the SEC tournament last week.
The Trojans beat Southern Miss in February at the Wiregrass Classic in Dothan. Troy also won both meetings at last year's Tuscaloosa regional to eliminate the Golden Eagles.
It is Troy's fourth regional trip since moving to Division I in 1994. Last year's team broke a nine-year drought.
