Arkansas 6, Alabama 0

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Arkansas' Nick Schmidt took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and pitched a complete game, leading Arkansas to a 6-0 victory over Alabama Wednesday in the first round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.

Schmidt (10-3) finished with six strikeouts and four walks, and allowed only two Alabama baserunners to make it as far as second base.

Danny Hamblin hit a three-run homer to left field in the third, part of a four-run inning for the Razorbacks (39-18). It was the 15th home run of the season for Hamblin and the 56th in his career, tying the school record.

Tommy Hunter (7-5) took the loss for the Crimson Tide (31-25), giving up seven hits and six earned runs in 6-and-2/3rd innings, with six strikeouts and five walks.

Arkansas will play the winner of today's game between South Carolina and Florida Thursday in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.

Alabama faces the South Carolina-Florida loser.
