Alabama State Hires Barlow as Head Coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State trustees named former Hornets and NFL receiver Reggie Barlow head football coach Friday.

The 34-year-old Barlow had served as the Hornets' interim coach since Charles Coe resigned on March 26th to take a job with the NFL's Oakland Raiders.

Barlow called it his "dream job."

Alabama State has not finalized details of the contract.

Barlow spent the past two seasons as Alabama State's quarterbacks coach, working with second-round NFL draft pick Tarvaris Jackson two years ago.

The Montgomery native set Alabama State records for receptions and receiving yards.

Barlow then spent eight years in the NFL, playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Raiders.
