TUSCALOOSA, Ala.(AP) - Alabama claimed an 11-to-10 comeback win over South Carolina Sunday, led by Alex Avila, who hit two home runs and drove in six runs, including a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
South Carolina (33-13, 11-10 Southeastern Conference) sent 11 players to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Alabama (25-20, 10-11 SEC) trailed 10-2 in the third inning before the comeback began.
Will Stroup (1-0) earned the win with 7 2/3 innings of solid relief. He allowed three runs and seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
USC reliever Jeff Jeffords (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
