Alabama 10, South Carolina 5

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Kent Matthes had two hits and three RBI in the sixth inning to help lead Alabama to a 10-to-five victory over Number Five South Carolina Friday night.

The Crimson Tide (24-and-19, 9-and-10 Southeastern Conference) scored ten runs on ten hits, eight of them in the sixth inning.

Tommy Hunter (5-and-3) picked up the win on the mound for the Tide, throwing seven innings allowing five runs on six hits and striking out four while walking five.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Tide broke a 2-to-2 tie and chased South Carolina (32-and-12, 10-and-9 SEC) starting pitcher Harris Honneycutt (7-and-3) from the game and adding eight and giving the Tide a 10-to-2 lead.

South Carolina came back in the seventh inning with three runs, but didn't managed to threaten the Tide's lead.

The two teams will face off again Saturday in game two of the series at four p-m Central time.
