AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Arkansas ace pitcher Nick Schmidt held Auburn to just four hits to help lead the Number Three Razorbacks to a 12-to-one victory over the Tigers Friday night.
Schmidt, who spent the summer as a pitcher with Auburn Head Coach Tom Slater on the Team U-S-A National Team and is the reigning S-E-C Pitcher of the Year, went the distance for Arkansas (34-and-11, 14-and-5 Southeastern Conference), surrendering just one run, walking three to go with the four hits.
Auburn (27-and-18, 6-and-13 S-E-C) found itself down 4-to-nothing after the top of the first and was never able to dig itself out of the hole.
The Auburn pitching staff surrendered four home runs on the night, two to Danny Hamblin, and its offense struggled to put runners on base as the Tigers finished with the season-low tying four hits.
Evan Crawford (4-4) took the loss for Auburn, allowing nine runs on ten hits in seven innings.
The two teams meet again Saturday at two p.m.
