Seminoles 1 Win Away from Bowl-Eligibility

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - It may have been one of Florida State
coach Bobby Bowden's biggest wins.

In his first game after turning 80, Bowden watched freshman
quarterback EJ Manuel lead the Seminoles to 41-28 victory Saturday
at Wake Forest. Manuel, who replaced injured quarterback Christian
Ponder, passed for a touchdown and ran for another in his starting
debut.

The win evened Florida State's overall record to 5-5 and keeps
alive hopes to extend the nation's longest string of bowl
appearances. With a win over hapless Maryland this Saturday,
Florida State would be bowl-eligible a 28th straight year.

And with a season finale at top-ranked Florida, Saturday's game
against the Terrapins was just like the win over Wake Forest - a
"must" one.
